Gordon Mansell

Gordon is co-artistic director with William O'Meara in ORGANIX 07. He has a diverse background in both music and business. Gordon’s passion for music was formed from a very young age at the Royal Conservatory of Music and later, at St. Michael’s Choir School. With a further interest in Graphic Arts and Technology, Gordon went on to earn his first degree in photographic sciences and graphic technology from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1979. Gordon then entered a career in publishing and advertising, eventually forming his own award-winning advertising agency. Gordon has sustained a parallel career and since 1968, has served in music ministry in churches throughout Toronto. Through his dedication and commitment, Gordon has gained a reputation as a highly professional organist and choral director. In 2002, Gordon was appointed to form and direct a special purpose choir for a multi-media Vocations concert for the Toronto Roman Catholic Archdiocese. This concert was presented on the Papal stage at the World Youth Day event in July of that year. Gordon’s choir was accompanied by members of Celtic Band, Leahy and the National Youth Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Boris Brott. Also in 2002, Gordon re-entered academia in the organ performance program at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Music and graduated in 2006 having won two more awards. He is now engaged in graduate school studies and a candidate for the Master’s of Music degree in organ performance. Gordon continues his interest in business marketing and the promotion of organ music as an executive producer through the Glionna Mansell Corporation and ORGANIX. Primarily however, Gordon is a performance student and is currently interim Music Director and Organist at Kew Beach United Church. Gordon serves on the board of directors of the Toronto Centre Royal Canadian College of Organists and is on the steering committee for the 2009 RCCO national convention.
