Michael Barth
Originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Michael moved to Toronto in 2004 to pursue a Master’s degree in trumpet performance at the University of Toronto while establishing himself as a freelance performer and teacher. Prior to coming to Toronto he studied music at the University of Victoria (B.Mus. 2004) and physiology at the University of Saskatchewan (B.Sc. 1999). His classical training has given him a wide range of performance opportunities as a solo, orchestral, and chamber musician with several organizations throughout the GTA, and he has also become involved in Toronto’s indie-rock scene through his work with the instrumental post-rock group Do Make Say Think with which he has recorded and toured extensively. Currently a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at the UofT, Michael is indulging his interest in contemporary trumpet music through his study of the repertoire for solo trumpet and electronics.
