Etsuko Kimura

Etsuko Kimura is the concertmaster of Sinfonia Toronto. She was born and raised in Japan and began studying violin there at the age of four. She completed both her bachelors degree and masters degree in music performance at the Osaka College of Music, where she was a student of the renowned Professor Tomotada Soh and graduated as the top student in her class. In 1992, Ms. Kimura was a prize winner at the prestigious Joseph Szigeti International Violin Competition. In 1993 she traveled to Canada as the recipient of a scholarship from the Rohm Music Foundation to study with Professor Lorand Fenyves as a special post-degree student at the University of Toronto. On completing her studies, Ms. Kimura became the concertmaster of the Kobe City Chamber Orchestra, a position she held until emigrating to Canada permanently from Japan in 1997. She has given many solo recitals and has performed as a soloist with many orchestras.
